Mattress Care Instructions

At Waitemata Backcare Beds, we are committed to helping you maximize the lifespan of your investment. Proper care and maintenance are essential for ensuring your mattress remains comfortable and durable over time.

Rotating Your Mattress:

During the first four months, rotate your mattress from end to end every two weeks.

After this initial period, rotate your mattress monthly.

This practice helps distribute wear evenly across the surface, preventing uneven sagging and prolonging the life of your mattress.

Settling the Full Sleeping Surface:

For double size and larger mattresses, try to sleep across the full width of the mattress from left to right.

This encourages even settling across the entire sleeping surface.

It also helps prevent body contouring, which can occur when certain areas compress more than others due to pressure or weight.

Understanding Body Contouring:

Body contouring happens when the comfort layers compress over time in specific areas.

Similar to a three-seater couch, if only the outer sections are used, they soften up, while the centre remains firm.

In mattresses, this phenomenon is often referred to as the "W effect," where the centre of the mattress may remain less worn while the edges soften.

Use a good quality waterproof mattress protector to safeguard your mattress and maintain hygiene.

By following these care instructions, you can help ensure your mattress remains supportive and comfortable for years to come.

Body Contouring

Body Contouring or Body Impressions in Mattresses

Body contouring or Body impressions happen when the comfort layers of a mattress compress due to the weight applied to specific areas. Over time, this localized pressure causes the foam or padding to soften and mould to your body shape. However, if only part of the mattress is used consistently—similar to sitting on just the outer sections of a three-seater couch—the foam in those areas will soften, while the unused middle section remains firmer.

This phenomenon is not a manufacturing defect; it simply results from uneven use. To help prevent or reduce impressions, it’s recommended to sleep in the middle of the mattress regularly. This distributes the weight more evenly across the entire surface, maintaining the comfort layers' longevity and performance.
